Recipe #4: RADICAL CHANGES to (ick!) Spam cordon bleu
Made some major changes to this recipe. It CALLED for giant hunks of Spam hollowed out and filled with canned chicken and shredded cheese. Then I was to roll it in Pringles crumbs and grill. Fat slabs of Spam is TOO much Spam, especially after 3 recipes featuring Spam as the central ingredient. Actually I couldn't even THINK of eating that much Spam in one sitting. Don't think I can stand to eat Spam ever again. I wasn't that keen on it in the first place, to be honest.
___________ ___________ ___________ ___________ __________ ____
INSTEAD, I got four boneless chicken breasts and beat and rolled them flat. I laid a thin slice of Spam and a piece of provolone cheese on each breast, then rolled them up and held them in place with toothpicks. Dipped each in a mixture of egg white and evaporated milk, then rolled each in Pringles crumbs.
And here is ANOTHER change. My sweet 8 year old great-niece, Samantha asked, "Why don't you use different flavors of Pringles?" Good Idea. I mixed the crumbs of (1) Sour Cream and Onion, (2) Bar-b-que and (3) Vinegar and Sea Salt Pringles. I followed the recipe from hereon : "Put the chips in a ziplock bag and beat the hell out of it." Nothing like MAN talk in cookbook, huh? Grilled to a golden brown, a drizzle of chicken gravy and served with Potatoes au Gratin and a cucumber and tomato salad. My Sweet wife declared, "It was a good entree to build the rest of the meal around. I would have it again, but I wonder if I'd like it with a red sauce?"

"Julie and Julia" is on StarsK! Late Tonight
Chick Flick I know, but it's the film that inspired my MANLY version of Julie's cookbook/blog concept. I give full credit for the idea to her. So I'm gonna DVR the movie and watch it tomorrow while I make Recipe #4 -- Chicken Cordon Bleu!!

Recipe #3: A pocket Full of Spam. Not Bad!
Poppin' Fresh pizza dough, rolled into 6" circles and stuffed with pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, chopped green pepper and cubed Spam. Folded into a pouch and grilled. Basically it's just a pizza folded over. Not bad, really, but it was immediately obvious that this did NOT have to be a Spam recipe. Cubed ham or pepperoni would have been much better. My sweet Alexandra says, "This is my favorite so far, but of course, it's PIZZA!" The next recipe is the last with Spam, but we are pretty fed up with Spam (Probably won't want to eat it EVER again!). Going to make major adaptations to the last of the 4 Spam recipes. More on that next time. This one gets 3 out of 4 stars. If I made it again, I'd use real pizza toppings!

Recipe #2: Mushroom SPAMwiches
Thick slabs of Spam (4 from 1 block of Spam), marinated in mushroom gravy and poultry seasoning. Grilled, and placed on toasted buns, with tomato, mushrooms and provolone Cheese. Can't say this one will be my favorite. The thick slab of spam is overwhelming and the whole thing is hard to eat because it tends to slide side to side. My Sweet Alexandra says, "The first bite is delicious, but the meat is too thick and it doesn't work at all with the mushroom sauce and tomato." We're giving this recipe 1 out of 4 stars.

Recipe 1: Spam Goes Hawaiian
The first four recipes in "A Man a Can and a Grill" are made with Spam and a can or two of something.
This first one is kabobs made with chunks of Spam, chunks of green pepper and chucks of pineapple, marinated in pineapple juice, garlic and teriyaki. "Extra Credit" is awarded (so saith the cookbook) if served on a bed of rice, so I made long grain curry rice on the stovetop. My wife Sandy pronounced it, "An unusual dish, and I really enjoyed the flavor. I would eat it again!"

Beginnings: A Man, A Can, a Grill
I plan to make every recipe from the book "A Man, A Can, A Grill" a grilling cookbook by David Joachim and published by Men's Health Magazine. I was inspired by the Chick-Flick "Julie and Julia" a true story in which Amy Adams (Julie) committed to making every recipe in Julia Child's cookbook and blogging about it. I will make every one of the 50 recipes in the book "A Man, a Can, A Grill" and will blog about it. I will include photos when appropriate and when the food is photogenic (some foods aren't you know!) Hey World, check ME out!
